Saraburi Sandbox, A Low Carbon City (Saraburi Province, Thailand) is a key strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the area. Located about 108 km north of Bangkok, it serves as a testing ground for advanced technologies, research, and innovation in various industries, particularly cement production.
Saraburi is a major center for cement production in the country, accounting for over 80% of Thailand’s total output. Supported by the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) and a coalition of stakeholders, including the Saraburi Industry Association and seven ministries, the sandbox is committed to achieving Industry Net Zero by 2050.
Collaborating with 20 organizations, the sandbox integrates advanced technologies, research, and funding into pilot projects aligned with Thailand’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitments.
It had 25.8 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions in 2020 (Scope 1&2) and anticipates contributing $7.1 billion to the annual GDP, while maintaining 380,945 job in 2022.
